Job Description: We are seeking dedicated and experienced Family Law Paralegals and Legal Assistants to join a dynamic legal team that helps clients using paralegals and legal assistants with much more than word processing. As a Family Law Paralegal or Legal Assistant, strategy plays a crucial role in supporting clients and attorneys in all aspects of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, and domestic violence cases. Recently admitted attorneys with no experience may apply understanding they will be doing primarily paralegal work and supporting other attorneys. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a passion for advocating for families in need. Responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys with case management, including drafting legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence in both high asset complex litigation and matters handled in collaboration.
  • Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, and regulations relevant to family law matters.
  • Communicate and meet with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Familiarity with local rules of Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.
  • Manage and maintain case files, including organizing documents, tracking deadlines, and ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist with trial preparation, including preparing exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders.
  • Attend court hearings, mediations, and depositions as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion in all client and case-related matters.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and answering phone calls.
  • Apply the firm’s software and technology to update and maintain client information.
  • Navigate and utilize the Mecklenburg eFile system when submitting court documents or researching for documents needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certificate from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working as a family law paralegal/legal assistant or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in legal research, all methods of discovery, and writing.
  • Strong knowledge of family law procedures and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software, including TimeSlips.
  • Familiarity with e-filing systems and court procedures.
  • Bilingual proficiency (if applicable) is a plus.
